The doyenne of yarn! Wild silk. Tassar yarn. Our exclusive non violent silk range.
Wild organic and totally exclusive organic tassar silk yarn. Silk yarn with a conscience!
The reason it is wild is because there has been no detrimental effects to the silk worm in production of this yarn.
Tassar silk yarn production is a natural process using ancient spinning techniques.
Tassar Silk is produced by the larvae of several species of silk worms the insects of these species are found mostly in wild forests eating off the trees they live on.
In conventional cultivated silk like mulberry silk, the cocoons are boiled with the larvae still inside, however if the cocoons are boiled after the larvae have left them, the silk made is then called non-violent silk, wild silk, organic silk and Ahimsa Silk.
This tassar silk is very unusual looking and therefore an extra special silk yarn for fibre and textile art. It is extremely chunky, great for extreme knitting and crochet with a variegated texture. It is rough in texture, but softens with once washed. It is also easy to dye. It is truly original, it is handmade to order so when Yarn Yarn order, the craftspeople and artisans that make the yarn for us are sent out to make our yarns in the forest. It truly is amazing stuff.
