Handspun noil silk in black and white. Handtwisted yarn.
This silk noil yarn is lovely and soft and has been made in rural India by village women using traditional techniques. This 10 ply yarn have been hand twisted and is approx DK. They have been made into 100g skeins using a charka. Noil silk is produced using the short fibres left over from the combing process. Don't you just love all these silks and processes. Don't you love the fact that these yarns are offering self employment for women in deprived areas and that the yarns are made form leftover fibres. We are so lucky to have such artisans making our yarns.
These sari silk yarns are spun using a drop spindle in villages in Northern India. Spinning these yarns is the only source of income in these communities. By providing these spinning opportunities, we keep ancient traditions alive. We provide work in a socially responsible environment where no child labour is involved. We work directly with these women and families developing new colours and yarns from waste materials that would otherwise be destroyed! This is great news for us as yarn addicts because it adds a magical and inspirational spin to our creative endeavours.
The colours of these silk yarns, their nature and textures are peerless. They are soft, luxurious, handpsun and vibrant. We as a supplier and you as a customer are not only supporting these communities but we are saving waste from landfill!
This is a super yarn for knitting, crochet, weaving, making rugs, arts and crafts and more. Ethical, sustainable yarns made by talented artisans!
Each 100g skein is approx 220 yards. Could be used in weaving but also could be used in embroidery and fine lace knitting.
