This is a purely hand made silk fiber. Produced from Peduncles of the silk tassar cocoons.
Peduncle Silk Top. Peduncle silk is produced from the stiff stem of the cocoon. This is a shorter length fiber than tussah silk, but with a sheen softer than Mulberry silk. Peduncles or the stick part of the Tassar cocoons which helps the cocoons to get attach with the tree, has been removed from the cocoons and boiled in water, and then Peduncle yarns are produce from that. After the yarns has been manufactured from the Peduncles the rest or the fiber part is combined and termed as Tassar-N Silk fiber. Its a naturally black in colour.
These fibres have a wool like texture. They are raw. They are suitable for felting, roving, spinning and paper making. Perhaps mixing with other fibres will produce an interesting yarn!
Naturally colored Tassar Silk. These fibers are produced naturally in this color only, but can be dyed in any color. Grown and processed by hand in India, the colors of the silk are from the tannin of the plants that the caterpillar eats. It has a distinctive smell indicating its minimal processing. A unique ethical fiber. The cocoons are grown in the wild unlike mulberry silk which is cultivated.
