Selling ethical yarns and working directly with women in India since 2008.

Unique and textured this chunky banana yarn is born from recycled banana fibres left over from sari manufacturing. It is slubby, hand-spun and hand-dyed in the back yards of women and families in rural India. I have spent many hours traveling and visiting these miraculous and talented individuals watching them work, assisting (a loose sense of the word) in the spinning with their handmade super large drop spindles while the whole village watched!

By giving these materials a second life, we reduce waste while supporting sustainable livelihoods for artisan families.

This chunky vegan friendly yarn is consciously crafted for knitting, crochet, weaving, rug making, arts and crafts, handmade bags, hats, gloves, and more. Each skein represents a commitment to ethical production, environmental responsibility, and traditional craftsmanship.

Each 100g skein is approximately 35 metres.

Banana silk yarn is a chunky vegan alternative to silk that may Indian saris are made from to give that silk sheen drape. This banana fibre yarn has been handdyed in beautiful b;ack.

Banana yarn is a great yarn to work with for throws, bags, hats, rugs. Knit, crochet, weave with it. It is such a versatile ethical yarn!

There may be slight differences in dye lots as they are made small batch.

AZO free dyes which are eco friendly and non toxic.

Handwash in light detergent, lay flat to dry.

Please see ‘our yarn journey’ and images of how these simple handmade yarns are dyed in the backyards of our suppliers - women!
